FAQ

What is your Return and exchange policy?

Every painting is photographed to capture the closest likeness to the original piece that is possible. There may be some differences between monitor colour calibration so some colours might vary slightly in person. However, every effort is made to accurately show and describe each painting online.

All sales are final. If you feel you have received your painting in error, or have any questions or concerns, please email me.

Do you take commissions?

I take a limited number of commissions per year. Note that prices are higher than similarly sized non-commission pieces due to the extra time that is taken through the process of completing a commissioned painting. Please contact me if you are interested and I will do my best to create a painting full of delight just for you.

Do you teach?

Yes! I do workshops with small groups focusing on getting started or restarted with oil painting. I love this medium but realize that many people have a mental block due to the perceived complications of solvents, cleanup etc. It is soooo worth it. I would love to get you or your group into oils in a fun and playful way. Email me for more info.

Who owns the painting rights?

All artwork, including images of the artwork, is the sole property of Hilary Farmer and is held under copyright even after purchase. This means that I retain all rights to all artwork I have created, including sold and commissioned original paintings. I retain the right to make reproductions of any and all artwork I created, unless the buyer has purchased the full rights to the artwork, on top of the purchased price of the original. The buyer may not reproduce the artwork in any way without written permission of the artist. Resale of purchased artwork may not occur without written permission of Hilary Farmer.

If you would like to ensure that your purchased piece will never become a print, please email me to discuss purchasing the full or partial rights to your paintings.

how does shipping work?

Originals:

  • All original paintings will be wrapped in paper, packaged in a well padded, strong cardboard box. Extra-large original paintings (generally larger than 36x36) will be sent un-stretched and rolled in a tube. Please contact a local framer to you before purchase to get estimates on re-stretching the canvas for you. Shipping fully stretched large canvases is a possibility, but will incur additional shipping fees for freight shipping.

  • Within Canada artwork will ship CanadaPost, and will arrive (domestic) with 1 week from time of shipping, with tracking and insurance.

  • US and International shipping will be sent by CanadaPost, and can take (US) up to 14 business days and (International) up to a month, depending on your location. Shipping times are not guaranteed outside of Canada. International buyers, please note that shipping charges may vary, and overcharges will be refunded. Similarly, underestimate charges will result in additional costs to be invoiced to you prior to shipment.

Prints and small items:

  • All prints and small items (calendars, ornaments, journals) are packages carefully in a sturdy mailer or cardboard box.

  • Shipping is with CanadaPost, usually arriving within 1 week for Canada, and up to 14 days for US, and up to a month for International.

  • International and US shipping can incur additional fees, such as duty. These are beyond my control, and not included in your purchase price. Tracking beyond Canada is beyond my control, and can be unreliable once the order has left the country. I have not had any troubles with international shipping so far though!

Each item will say which shipping option to choose in the text information for that size and type of art.

Local pick-up: If you are in my area, you may choose “studio pick-up” for any piece you are purchasing online. Please email me to coordinate a pick-up time.

Shipping costs include fees, packaging, time, and labour.

NOTE: I have tried to estimate shipping rates as closely as possible to actual rates but sometimes (particularly to some international destinations) the cost may be different. In the case that the actual fee is over or under the estimated rate by more than $10 CAD, that amount will be billed or refunded as appropriate.
